Massage is the treatment and practice of gentle manipulation of the soft tissues of the body with physical, functional and psychological benfits. Massage in trained hands can be very gentle or deep and vigorous, depending on individual need. Either can be profoundly effective of positive change.

Touch is possibly the most fundemental of the five human senses.  Babies who are not cuddled and held do not thrive, and we instinctively know this, reaching out to them with loving hands. Many of us saw the listless, isolated babies in Romanian orphanages a few years ago on television, illustrating how lack of physical contact retards healthy development. It is no surprise that touch, the most basic of needs, persists for the whole of our lives, and yet can be overlooked.

Massage works for us all whether we are mentally overworked and neglecting the need to relax; or pushing our muscles to straining point in some specific endeavour, such as a gardening project, or sporting effort; or simply living alone, quietly missing that gentle touch of a partner that we once took for granted.

At Rosemary Cottage Clinic we see people of all ages and offer a range of massage options to suit. We use therapeutic essential oils blended to individual needs and added to a base oil chosen for its medicinal or therapeutic properties.
