2. Do I need to ask my doctor first?
No, this is not required. The professionals you consult regarding your health is entirely your choice. Your GP is unlikely to know enough about herbal medicine to have an informed opinion and some muddle Medical Herbalists with homeopaths.
Our Medical Herbalist is trained in standard clinical diagnosis and the medical sciences, so you are in safe hands. Phone us to arrange a free 15 minute consultation to discuss your condition if you are in any doubt.

3. Do herbal medicines really work?
Yes. They have been used by all cultures in all parts of the world since time immemorial. Many animals self-medicate with herbs, seeking out and eating certain plants at certain times. Laboratory studies on the herbs used in clinics such as Rosemary Cottage Clinic confirm centuries old use of them. The companies that supply herbal clinics also have laboratories where analysis of raw materials takes place, with full quality control regimes to support their production processes.
Depending on the disease/condition and the individual sufferer, different lengths of time will be required to improve health, but there is usually some discernable improvement in the first week or two. Sometimes the results are dramatic and almost instant. Other times progress is slow but steady. Most people understand that the longer they have experienced a condition, the longer it might take to shift it.

5. Can I treat myself using over-the-counter herbs?
Whilst it is possible, it is unlikely to be as effective as seeing a Medical Herbalist. Articles in newspaper and magazines tend to give the impression that a particular herb is good at treating a particular condition. This is not how Herbalists work. We take into account your personal medical history and secondary symptoms and usually prepare a combination of herbs to address your individual condition.

7. Do you do home visits?
Yes, particularly when it is dificult for the patient to travel. This may be because they are in a nursing home or are too ill to come to the Clinic. Where the distance is excessive this would be prohibitive, in which case we would recommend a Medical Herbalist closer to you.
